Managing editor Gary Graham was reluctant to put today's immigration protest on the front page because of the relatively small size of the crowd. Senior editor Carla Savalli, on the other hand, said that given the prominence of the issue nationally, Spokane's response, regardless of crowd size, is an important news event in the community. We've got it slated for the page one centerpiece as of right now, but things could change before tomorrow morning. And speaking of crowd size, the number in our story shifted somewhat this afternoon. Virginia de Leon's original estimate was 200, photographer Jed Conklin thought it was around 100, which we used for a while to err on the side of caution. Veteran reporter and crowd-counter Jim Camden estimates 160 marching and 250 at the courthouse, which is the number we're reporting for now.
Bush presses Congress on war funding
Not to worry, sarge, in the end Dubya, Tricky Dick, Condi and the rest of the gang will get their money and the troops will have...err...everything they need for another year. Then 2009 will roll around, a Clinton will replace a Bush, and Congress will really get to work withdrawing the troops from the colossal blunder that will always define one of the worst-ever U.S. presidential administrations, that of the small-minded, incompetent, George W. Bush. .
Islam on marriage
The overview commentary of the said Sura also deals with the family, the nucleus and the foundation of Muslims society, to which Islam has extended notable attention and effort, regulating its essential aspects and ensuring its safety and protection against abuse and disintegration. Such attention is reflected in several Quranic suras and addresses all necessary elements to ensure the strong foundation of the family in Muslim society. The Islamic social order is family-based by virtue of its being a Divinely-Ordained system for human society that takes full account of the essentials of human nature and its basic requirements. Its ingredients originate with the very essence of life itself, as stated in the Holy Quran when it says "Of all things We have created a pair (male and female), so that you may give thought." (51:49) "Limitless in His glory is He who has created pairs of whatever the earth produces, of your own kind, and of that which they (people) have no knowledge." (36:36) Human life began with one person, out of whom came a spouse, and then offspring from the pair of them, and so on.
What font says 'Change'?
Then "Mike" is tucked in between the H and k as if "we almost forgot to tell you his first name." Setting FAITH. FAMILY. FREEDOM. in such a thin weak sans serif feels as if it was added as a committee compromise or an afterthought. The type is too light, too small, and does not have a real voice. Romney Uppercase can attract attention and project boldness, which is probably why the Romney campaign set his name in all caps. It works pretty well for 'Romney'. The letters fit comfortably and form a pretty solid unit. Unfortunately, MITT does not lend itself well to this treatment. The two T's create a big space between them compared with the space between the MI or, to a lesser extent, the IT. The result is an irregular rhythm and feeling of inconsistency.

Rogue trader held in French bank scandal
The possible motivations of the 31-year-old trader, Jerome Kerviel, remained a mystery, and the bank said it appeared that he made no personal gain from the unauthorized trades. Judicial officials said Kerviel was taken into custody earlier in the day _ two days after Societe Generale's announcement that he was responsible for one of history's biggest frauds. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation was ongoing. Under French law, Kerviel can be held up to 48 hours. The debacle further rattled an already nervous banking sector and has fueled a debate about risk management. "If we can make profits in a matter of hours, we can also have huge losses," President Nicolas Sarkozy said during a visit to India. "We must stop with this system that has gone haywire and that has lost track of its aim." He added: "It appears to be time to ...
HOLLYWOOD 2.0: NEW FRONTIERS IN NEW MEDIA - PART 1
The two primary avenues of content delivery on the Internet is streaming video and Electronic Sell-Through. If you go to the official site for any of the major networks, you can watch video streams of entire episodes of their prime-time programming. The studios claim the writers arent entitled to compensation for this re-use of their work, because its being used for quote unquote promotional purpose only. That said, the networks do run ads during these streaming episodes, which you cannot skip, and writers dont see a penny of that ad revenue. Electronic Sell-Through, on the other hand, is fully downloadable and re-watchable videos, be they original Internet content or projects produced for other media. In 1985, at the advent of home video, the AMPTP justified a huge reduction in home video residuals by saying that it was an unproven business model. Despite that, when the DVD market exploded and the money-making potential for home video was fully realized, the studios were none to eager to negotiate an increase in the residual formula. Now, the AMPTP is singing the same tune with regards to the Internet, that there is no proven business model. And while that may be true at the present time, there is little doubt that sooner rather than later, someone is going to successfully monetize Internet video, and all the creators are asking for is their fair share.
Nature’s chance meeting
But this latest news is certainly a step – an important step – in the right direction. ............................... Going native in the bush Our Aboriginal guide tells us about “bush tucker" – lizards and wallabies, berries and roots. He offers us little fruits, “the best you'll have all day". They taste of damp tissue paper. At our picnic stop by a billabong, he reaches into his bag to get his lunch: a can of baked beans, writes Paul Miles Evan Yanna Muru, who leads Aboriginal tours of the bush in the Blue Mountains, a couple of hours' train ride from Sydney, refuses to indulge any fantasies that Aborigines dine on possums. “I have baked beans when it's cold and salad when it's hot," he says, sitting on rocks near a waterfall. The area's geological formations and rainforest trees are newcomers compared to Evan's ancestors.
Bush calls for $145 billion in tax relief
Spend more money we don't have to encourage folks to go shopping more. Now, I'm no economist, but there seems to be something missing from this picture. Seems to me that if you want to dump a lot of money into the economy, a good way would be to put people to work rebuilding our infrastructure. It would put AMERICAN citizens to work on good paying jobs rebuilding OUR infrastructure. WE would be getting something for the dollars spent, jobs, stimulis to AMERICAN business, and a well built strong country - rather than a give away to the corporations... again. Oh, and did I mention that the companies doing the work would have to be AMERICAN OWNED, and on AMERICAN SOIL and hire AMERICAN CITIZENS? What a novel concept! If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything. Mark Twain .
Honky-tonk with a big-city beat
He saw the void, because the big boys like Jam and LiveNation weren't touching it," says Duff Rice, founder of concert promotion group Duff Entertainment. The shows at Joe's Bar are not just for city folk, either. Marci Braun, music director for US99, says, "The cool thing is that our country shows are spread out and that listeners are so passionate, they'll travel wherever" to see shows. What's your pleasure? And in Chicago, you can hear it all. Seeing Keith Urban at the Allstate Arena is definitely one way to go. But smaller-bars-turned-honky-tonks are full of spectacular house bands and big acts. If mainstream country's not your thing, try the House of Blues or FitzGerald's for more alt-country acts such as the Waco Brothers and Chicago's own Robbie Fulks, who calls country music a broad quilt of styles, adding that "people in Downers Grove have more in common with truck drivers than you might think." Farther out, you can get off your bar stool and try line dancing.
